Suited up 5/22-5/24

Image
This black suit is one of my favorite suits because it is so well-made, it contours my body well and makes me look very shapely. But its also very heavy (wool with linning) and black. You know I have an aversion to all black anything--well except Black people :D. I went for a fiercer look to compliment my hairstyle by adding two cheetah print pins and pumps. I added a similarly colored tan belt to break up the monotonous pinstripes, blend the patterns and prints a bit and outline my waist to give the outfit proportion since the skirt is a bit short. Me likey!

Work to wear

Image
The only good thing about working on the weekends is that you can wear whatever you want and still get paid. I wore this colorful print cotton dress, which I bought a couple years ago from either Ross or Rainbow, to work on a very warm Saturday anticipating a long day with no time to change. I ended up wearing this to a carnival and my best friend's play also. Btw...Doesn't she look hottt in those liquid leggings ;-) Diversity Days To celebrate our diverse workforce, we held I diversity fashion show. I am wearing a traditional style Chinese dress called a Qi Pao. It was created during the roaring 20s primarily for the wealthy and aristocracy but has since become a symbol of Chinese womens and formal fashion.

My Vacation...and then some 4/29/12--5/9/12

Girls Cruise 2012 I had such a great time vacationing with my friends!! Can you imagine spending 7 days in tropical paradises with women like these?! Lol :) I'm wearing skinny jeans from Macys, Cheetah cardigan from NastyGal.com and a terrible karaoke voice haha.   My mom got this dress from Ross for maybe $20. Why? because every woman needs a gown that makes them feel sexy and like royalty. These silver heels were only $10 from the Goodwill. Just learned how to use the panaramic view on my camera just in time ey :) I'm wearing a short purple dress from Macy's with this amazing view of Mahagony Bay (Honduras). My friend taught me a lot about the the African slaves who inhabited the island after swimming ashore from capsizing and mutinied ships. Our second formal nite On the beach in Grand Cayman islands. The water and sky were so pretty and clear...ahhh! The necklace I'm wearing is a beaded coin-purse I ...

New things to work--week of 3/19/2012

Monday was not a good hair day. I already knew it was going to be covered. My options were either to wrap my hair, over accessorize my hair or hat my hair. I opted for the knit black hat and continued with a neo-soul/boho look by incorporating peacock feathers throughout. Peacock feather earrings, t-shirt and lapel pin, which I actually clipped to my hat so its not so blah up top. I wore grey pants and a cardi--staples of the business casual look--so I don't look too dressed down. Teal Thursday Color blocking and pattern mixing a big trends now. Funny thing is, that was something I've been doing since youth; but we called it mixed matching and I got teased for it. The teal jacket, black pumps and striped blouse are courtesy of the thrift store. The skirt is from JC Penney (on sale of course). The whole outfit probably costs less than this beautiful teal and green chunky necklace (also trending) which I just recently bought from Sears during their 6-9pm sale thi...

Playing for cheaps

In an effort to live a more exciting, albeit, single life I have scoured the city and counties for fun things to do. I have found the newspaper, craiglist, internet and word-of-mouth to be very useful tools in this endeavor.  Typically, I find a spot I like and stick with it for a while. I get to know "the regulars" and the owners and spread the word about their establishment. If they are black-owned, that's a plus. Lately, however, I have been going to new places using sites like living social, groupon, gilt city and things to do to find good deals. This week I found deals for the gun range, a carribean buffet, sushi, and a day party by researching online. Costs me about $60 for the whole week...not bad.

Wrapping to working 2/23/12 et al

So I missed a few hair appointments lol and I was too busy to do my own hair. I wanted a change from the fro I had been wearing all week so I coordinated my favorite wrap with my work clothes. In general I don't like to wear hats or wraps to work as I don't think they are appropriate (unless that's your  religious belief). I'm wearing purple pants from New York and Co, a printed blouse from JC Penney and a wool blazer. I love my gilded beaded necklace and added gold kitten heels to match.   Getting a lot of Hair Action ;) 2/25/12 - 2/27/12 Dress is a little large on me but after tying it in the back one could hardly tell. Both the dress and bolero are from Ross...totaling $30. Shoes are from Payless. The jewelry is from Traci Lynn . Enjoying a day party with my homegirl. Its too cold and windy for a dress so I wore a dressy top and paired it with distressed skinny jeans.  Picture party for my cousin's birthday. This is actually the same dre...
