Interior Designs

I've been watching HGTV a lot lately...because I actually have a reason to now that I am looking at properties. My fav shows are Income Property and Property Brothers. I think they appeal to me because I too see the potential in things. Also, I am like most of those buyers...I have high standards and good taste but I don't have a high salary or good credit :-/ Likewise, I want my store to look like a fine boutique with nice decor, interesting design and retro feel, on my modest budget. After looking at these shows and employing some of my thrifting and art skills, I think I can pull off some of these looks (pictured above). I'm paying close attention to the layout, the re-use of bookshelves and closets verses boring racks; also paying attention to the modern decor and layout of the stores. Long day with family My city! After the Lupus Walk, I accompanied (consulted) my bro in his endeavor to become more professional. I even found a pair of my dream

Local Outings

Being tightfisted goes beyond fashion and groceries; I am pretty tightfisted when it comes to entertainment also. I had an eventful week and probably spent about $50.00. How you ask? I plan things in advance. I take advantage of specials, freebees, online coupons, rewards points and I shop around. I reccommend you learn whats going on in your city by visiting the official tourism website for your state and looking for some free or relatively inexpensive things to do. You can also accomplish this by typing in "things to do in (insert city)" look for a website devoted to keeping people informed about community service projects, special engagements, happy hours, parties, events etc. I also reccommend you check out:      Living Social      Groupon      All Events      Headz Up and Yelp (just to name a few) for local deals and discounts. Happy Hour w/ open bar...$15 Comedy club with moms...$30 Art show with sorors...free Lupus walk with fam...sponsored

Back on the Gri(n)d

I'm back on social media, but strictly for business purposes. Maybe I just missed the point of those sites...I never met anyone or rekindled a friendship via Facebook or Myspace or whatever because I feel like all my friends should have my number...and use it. Those sites are nice for spying...I don't want a friendship from afar...a virtual poke or a message with no voice(mail). But it serves a purpose--it connects us without us having to try to remember 50/11 birthdays, addresses and upcoming events. So like I said...strictly business. I've been so busy preparing myself for the opening of my shop--thinking about my budget, my business plan, my clients, my marketing campaign and such. So busy in fact that I almost forgot the fun part...DECORATING! I went to the paint store and came home with a few plants and probably 40 swatches. I've decided on a "gender neutral" color scheme to appeal to men and women alike I'm thinking about th

Birthday parties galore

So many Virgos...Moms, Godmother, Aunt1, Aunt2, Bestie...did I forget anyone?!   We went to a swanky burlesque show in DC and I fell asleep. The end. Lol...no but I really did fall asleep. The decor was really gaudy and over-the-top but I guess that was the point...to have that dramatic decor to match the show. I def would not have fallen asleep at the strip club hahaha.

New Face

Image
What do we think about my business card?  Good afternoon all, I would like to introduce you to the amazing new face of TF--Ms. Hazel Scott (deceased). She was a singer, actress and an amazing jazz pianist in the 1930s and 1940s who received a scholarship to Juliard at the age of eight. She was like the Nina Simone or Alicia Keys of her day--world renowned, talented, fierce and classy--gracing the covers of Jet, Ebony and LIFE magazines. Ms. Scott was the first black female to have her own TV show, and was also married to legendary politician Adam Clayton Powell. In short...she's a beautiful beast and I feel honored to have her likeness reflected on my new business card. Let her not be forgotten.   Thrifted: jewelry    Thrifted: Pants, polo & necklance                             Thrifted: ankle strap heels and bead necklace  Thrifted: Jeans and scarf (worn as headband)  Thrifted: sling backs and jeggings   Thrifted: Boots and overni

Working the Plan

I have been blogging about my daily wear and activities for about 10 months now, I love showing off my thrifted finds and I love my personal style. I have decided to take this eandeavor to the next level and form my own business. I have spent nearly every free moment studying and working on my business plan. I feel confident that it will be well received and successful. I also know ir will take a lot of sacrifices, hard work and support...but I'm ready!! Here is my QR code...business forthcoming :) SAUL WILLIAMS!!  Saul...he's wearing a Jimi Hendrix t-shirt that reads: BOB MARLEY. He told us the story of this discounted typo tee and we all laughed at the irony...."we all look a like" and Hendricks was smoking "Bob Marley" way back when lol           What I wore to the concert.      This is one of my fav tees. I got it from Forever 21+...one of the few times I could fit something in there. This shirt sold out so fast...c
